As a host organisation for its area You’ve Got This programme officer, Kidz Konnekt is playing an important role in supporting the movement and improving health and wellbeing for young people in South Tees.
Kidz Konnekt is a registered charity that provides young people up to the age of 25 with advice, assistance and programmes of physical and educational activities to help them develop life and social skills, improve education, find employment and enjoy recreational and leisure activity.
The charity wanted to be involved with You’ve Got This to help further the work it’s doing in the community.
“The You’ve Got This movement is in line with our aims and objectives as a charity. They’re developing ways of supporting the work we deliver but on a bigger scale. While we are interested mostly in early intervention with children and young people, it’s important that we increase the health and wellbeing of the whole community. Our working partnership with You’ve Got This is vital in helping us do this.”
Kidz Konnekt is a host organisation for the local You’ve Got This programme officer, allowing the two to work closely on projects and initiatives for young people in Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough.
“We work with communities in many different ways, providing leisure, sport, recreation and outdoor adventure activities to encourage physical activity and mental well being. We also run community events, volunteering, crime reduction initiatives and youth training programmes and help young people grow and have a voice.”
You’ve Got This also supported Kidz Konnekt in delivering a programme of outdoor play activities during the 2020 school summer holidays.
Away from its community work, activity is heavily promoted among staff at Kidz Konnekt.
“Our team is encouraged to stay fit and healthy to be able to deliver and take part in physical activity programmes. We’re always pushing for better health choices in food and drink for young people in the work that we do and this is reflected in the team’s choices and behaviour at work. Being part of the You’ve Got This is helping us all stay motivated and active and our staff are always up for getting involved in new opportunities.”
Through long-term partnership, Kidz Konnekt hopes that You’ve Got This can help the charity expand its work in South Tees.
“We’re an organisation that has been pushing for better health and well-being for many years. The vast majority of the work that we do fits with what You’ve Got This aims to do. With this movement behind us, we hope, in time, to scale up what we offer to more people and benefit more communities.”
